RHS Garden Wisley« GO BACK
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Garden at Wisley is situated in the beautiful English countryside of Surrey, just south of London. It is one of four public gardens run by the RHS, and is one of the top three visited paid gardens in all of the United Kingdom, along with Kew Gardens and Alnwick. RHS Garden Wisley was founded in 1878 by RHS member George Ferguson Wilson. He purchased a 60 acre lot and called it the “Oakwood Experimental Garden.” After Wilson’s death in 1902, the property, along with the adjoining Glebe farm, was purchased by Sir Thomas Hanbury. He gifted them to the National Horticultural Society the following year. Since then RHS Garden Wisley has developed into 240 acres of diverse beauty. There are multiple formal and informal decorative gardens, a canal garden, and rock garden as well The site also displays several different smaller “model gardens” to show visitors the possibilities of what they can achieve in their own gardens, as well as trial fields The RHS Garden Wisley is an extraordinary place to visit, whether you are a gardening buff, or just want to enjoy the beauty of it all.
