Buscot Park

Buscot Park, located near Faringdon in Oxfordshire, is a stunning late 18th century neo-classical piece of architecture set within picturesque landscape gardens and attractive woodlands. The Great British Heritage Pass offers you free entrance to Buscot Park along with hundreds of other properties in Britain.

The elegant Buscot House was built in 1779 by Edward Loveden with the services of architect James Darley. After Loveden died, Buscot Park was eventually passed down to Alexander Henderson, who later became Lord Faringdon. The House is still in the Henderson family today, although owned by the National Trust.

Buscot Park was built in the popular Palladian style, yet also exhibits some Italian influence for a rather unique and somewhat understated appearance.

The interior of the home is spectacularly ornate and decorative. The pride of Buscot House is the famous Faringdon Collection. This famous collection of paintings and artwork was mainly assembled by Lord Faringdon’s grandson, an avid art collector.

Works within the collection include pieces by Rembrandt, Reynolds, and Rubens, among others. With several additions to the Faringdon Collection over the last few centuries, this collection of art has become one of the best in Britain.

The Buscot Park grounds offer an exquisite walled garden, Italianate water garden designed by Harold Peto in the early 20th century, and several different avenue walks. With such an array of architectural, horticultural, and artistic sites to see, Buscot Park is sure to be an enjoyable stop on your Britain visit.
